1973 No. 1's and a Happy B'day to one of the nicest female artists we ever met here at the Blimp...

9/8/1973 (43 years ago today) - Lotta babies as a result of this one...: Marvin Gaye starts two weeks at the top of the charts with his second U.S. No. 1, the ultra-classic "Let's Get It On". It doesn't get much sweeter than this...

9/8/1973 (43 years ago today) - The charts look good today, with Marvin on the singles side, and The Allman Brothers Band with the No. 1 album: "Brothers And Sisters" kicks off five weeks in a row at the top -- This was the bands commercial peak,  selling over seven million copies along with their biggest radio hit single success as Dicky Betts' "Ramblin' Man" went all the way to No. 2. Strange though: it was the Allmans one and only No. 1 LP!

9/8/1960 - Happy Birthday to singer-songwriter-guitarist Aimee Mann, 56 years old today. Started out as the leader and bass guitarist for the sort-of-legendary Boston pop outfit 'Til Tuesday back in the 1980's, Aimee's solo career is even more impressive: She does what she wants, when she wants, on her own terms. Modest success, critical praise and a devoted cult following suit her just fine. 1999's "Magnolia" earned her both Grammy and Academy Award nom's; earlier in 1993, before she played at T'birds here in Portland, she stopped by the WBLM studios for an interview and she turned out to be one of the most pleasant and genuinely intriguing artists we ever got the chance to spend some time with, a little shy, but honest, and we fell head over heels for her. Find some Aimee to add to your collection, you'll feel better; we really like "Lost In Space" (2002) and "@#%&*! Smilers" (2008), but our personally autographed copy of 'Til Tuesday's 1988 "Everything's Different Now" is probably the one we'll take to that desert island.
