According to News Center Maine, Westbrook Rep. Dillon Bates has been asked by House Speaker Sara Gideon to resign after accusations against him appeared via an anonymous source in The Bollard publication recently. You can read the article here.

The accusations are of sexual misconduct while Bates was teaching at Maine Girls Academy and paints him as a predator that had groomed his female students for sexual affairs. Bates is denying the charges and hasn't been charged with anything.

Though the article is truly upsetting, is it fair to ask someone to resign from their job because of rumors of misconduct without formal charges or the completion of an investigation?
