11 Winter-Related Records in Maine That Are Wicked Cool
Maine is a winter wonderland. From the first signs of the season in late October to spring skiing in April, this state shows its true colors.
Maine also has a splendid history when it comes to winter. The innovative spirit has been strong in this state for centuries. Inventions, like earmuffs and the snowmobile, can be traced back to the Pine Tree State. And now, some of the most state-of-the-art chairlifts in the country are found here.
Maine is also home to winter records, like snowmen taller than most of the buildings in Portland and a toboggan chute that is one-of-a-kind.
And remember when Maine used to have snowstorms? That was fun. Did you know that the town of Farmington once had a snow depth of seven feet? That is unfathomable to even comprehend.
Like I said, Maine's winter history is a hearty one, and one this state takes a lot of pride in.
With that being said, I decided to put together many of the great records and firsts this state has accomplished. Some of these records are statewide, while others go beyond the border. I also added a few of the firsts, due to the importance those inventions still have on modern day society.
I must admit, I really want to take a ride on that sweet snowmobile from 1908.
