If you're not a fan of winter, you might want to avert your eyes.

For those who can’t wait for cooler temperatures and the white stuff, do I have some good news for you: ski season is officially just around the bend.

Put away those golf clubs and break out the bindings—it's time to get those skis ready for another year of carving Maine's beautiful slopes. And today, one of those mountains is officially opening for the season!

Sunday River has been firing up the snowmaking machines and has enough of a base to open for the 2024-25 season. This is exciting news for all who love to fly insanely fast (or slow) down a hill.

It's hard to believe we've already reached another ski season, but here we are. And I'm sure many of you can’t wait. It always amazes me how much we all collectively hate winter, yet still love getting out and playing in the snow. I guess we Mainers will never lose that kid inside of us.

It also helps that we have outstanding ski options like Sunday River.

The resort has made a name for itself with its vast trail system, numerous peaks, state-of-the-art lifts, and wealth of activities. Sunday River can also boast the most ski terrain on the East Coast, with 135 trails across eight peaks. Even more impressive is the fact that nearly the entire network is covered by snowmaking. Once Sunday River opens for the season, it stays open.

As exciting as it is to see the mountain open, it's important to note that very little terrain will actually be skiable. Sunday River also recommends that only advanced skiers and riders consider hitting the slopes, as the open trails will not be groomed. You can follow along with the mountain's snow progress [here].

I hope everyone is ready for a killer winter!
