According to the Maine CDC's Thursday update, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Maine is now at 66,534 an increase of 219 since Wednesday. 48,817 of those cases are confirmed while 17,717 are deemed probable.

9 additional deaths were reported of individuals with COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 816. 8 of those 9 deaths were from a review of recently filed death certificates.1,962 patients have had to be hospitalized at some point. 107 are currently hospitalized with 421 in intensive care and 20 on a ventilator.

687,299 Mainers have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 654,984 are fully vaccinated. That equates to approximately 49% of all Mainers who are fully vaccinated and 51% who have received the first of two doses of the vaccine. Over 1.3 million doses in total have been given to Mainers.

During the Wednesday Maine CDC briefing, Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah noted that of the new COVID-19 cases reported since April 1, 45% of new cases have been Mainers under the age of 29. Due to the increase in cases of COVID in younger people in Maine, he urged those in that age group to get vaccinated.

On May 13, Governor Mills announced that Maine was updating its public health guidance to lift all capacity limits and requirements to physically distance in all indoor and outdoor settings effective May 24.

Governor Mills has renewed the State of Emergency in Maine through June 12, allowing Maine to continue receiving federal funding and using available resources to respond to COVID-19.
