Celebrities will be hitting the links in Maine in the summer of 2023, for what should be one heck of a benefit tournament.

After two successful years of hosting the PGA Korn Ferry Tour, Shamrock Sports & Entertainment has announced a celebrity golf tournament to be held starting on June 21. The event will once again be hosted at Falmouth Country Club, which is just a short drive from Portland.

The tournament announcement was made by Brian Corcoran of Shamrock Sports & Entertainment, along with NESN's Tom Caron, who emceed the event. They were joined by two of the celebrities playing in the tournament, Tim Wakefield and Blair O'Neal (who joined remotely).

Corcoran spoke enthusiastically about the upcoming tournament.

We are excited to welcome globally known celebrities to our region via Drive Fore Kids.  Initial interest from those participating in other high profile celebrity tournaments such as the American Century Championship (which has driven $6 Million in charitable impact since 1980) is high and validates the appetite from celebrities, sponsors and fans alike to showcase Maine as a pre-eminent destination

Wakefield and O'Neal both spoke of their enthusiasm for both the tournament and the game of golf in general.

Wakefield, a former knuckleball pitcher in the majors, played most of his career with the Boston Red Sox, helping the squad win two World Series. Now retired, he is quite the avid golfer.

O'Neal is a former LPGA player, who now spends her days working for the Golf Channel. She can be seen on many shows, including School of Golf and numerous seasons of Big Break.

Other celebrities that have committed to playing include Maine's own Patrick Dempsey, baseball Hall of Famer John Smoltz, former tennis champion Mardy Fish, and former Portland Sea Dog and member of the 2004 Red Sox World Series team Kevin Millar. The field will have a total of 36 celebs.

The event itself will be focusing on giving back, which is very important to Shamrock's overall mission as a company. Shamrock's hope for the tournament is to continue "driving economic, community and charitable impact to the region."

This is a very exciting opportunity for fans of golf here in Maine. As great as it was having the PGA feeder tour here for a few years, this has the potential of being downright huge. The celebs already announced could really open the door for more big names to join the party.

Besides 30 more celeb announcements, Corcoran added to expect a lot more fun details and events to be announced in the coming months, as they prepare for the tournament.
