Blaine House Decorations Pay Tribute to the Resilience of Mainers

Governor Janet Mills unveiled the holiday decorations at the Blaine House this week, which pay tribute to Maine residents during the pandemic, frontline workers, and the Maine fishing industry.

A total of 14 trees have been decorated and placed around the Blaine House, as part of this year's theme, which is 'A Celebration of Resilience.' The trees pay tribute to Maine residents, frontline workers, and those who lost their lives to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also pays tribute to the state's commercial fishing fleet, after four fishermen lost their lives recently in a boating accident.

"This year has been challenging," Governor Mills said in a media release, "and I know that Maine people are tired, but we are resilient and strong and we will get through these difficult times together. From my family to yours, I wish you a holiday of hope, happiness and good health. Please stay safe this holiday season."

The trees were donated by farm owners who are members of the Maine Christmas Tree Growers Association, including Echo Hill Choose and Cut in Waldoboro, Gooley's Conifers Unlimited Christmas Tree Farm in Farmington, Moose Hill Farm in Fayette, Nutkin Knoll Farm in Newburgh, Pleasant View Tree Farm in Hodgdon, Quinn's Tree Farm in Cornville, Skillin's Greenhouse in Falmouth, and Piper Mountain Christmas Trees in Newburgh.

Along with the donated trees, that line Capitol Street, the Blaine House maple tree is decorated with light sculptures created by noted Portland artist Pandor LaCasse. All the holiday decorations can be viewed while walking or driving by the Blaine House. The governor asks that all residents follow public health precautions.
