Nova Scotia is my happy place. For the past two summers, I've hopped on The CAT Ferry for a fun and relaxing ride to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, where my friends and I enjoyed a killer lobster boil, traversed "The Eerie & Ominous" walking tour, visited several breweries and more.

It was such a great getaway, and if you're thinking about planning a fun trip this summer, I can't recommend The CAT Ferry enough. You start enjoying yourself the moment you step on the ferry, rather than spending hours in the car! Starting this summer, they are docking at Bar Harbor, so the crossing is about 3.5 hours.

On The CAT, I personally enjoyed shopping and their cafes, but they also offer a new release movie on every crossing and live entertainment on select crossings. The Cat also has as an unsupervised children's area with movies, toys and books to keep the kiddos busy and entertained. The views are pretty amazing, too!

Once you get to Nova Scotia, the Yarmouth-Acadian Shores Tourism Bureau has information about a million things you can do. Last year, we dug into buckets of lobsters, mussels, boiled potatoes and corn on the cob at Cape Forchu Lightstation. I finished the meal off with the best strawberry shortcake that I've ever had.

I even got a little silly and tried pickled herring for the first time (with a wine chaser handy!)

Seriously, our neighbors to the north offer something for everyone's tastes, including beautiful scenery, amazing music, cultural experiences (like learning how lobster fishermen work!), and more.
