Checking for Charity in Maine Was Born Out of a Love of Hockey
Checking For Charity was born out of a love for hockey and a desire to give back to the community.
In 2017, two South Portland firefighters hatched up an idea: A charity hockey event with a couple of games and a focus on South Portland. Through the support and hard work of many firefighters and community members, the event has grown and raised over $70,000 in its first 5 years! The event is coming up!
MARCH 13, 2022 AT WILLIAM B. TROUBH ICE ARENA IN PORTLAND
The last two years (as we all know and don't need to be reminded of) have been a mix of virtual and crossing fingers. But these dedicated firefighters have not stopped and they are wicked excited that this year it will be in person!
The event is the largest fundraiser the South Portland Professional Firefighters conduct each year. All of the money raised is donated to a variety of non-profit organizations and charities - including generously to Cans for a Cure! This year they are partnering with the Special Olympics of Maine!
There is a silent auction this year with so many amazing items including a basket from the Dunn Family Maple! It looks so yummy!
Plan your Sunday, March 13! Lori Voornas from Q97.9 will be on hand to help make the day even more fun!
