Checking for Charity in Maine Was Born Out of a Love of Hockey
Checking For Charity was born out of a love for hockey and a desire to give back to the community.
In 2017, two South Portland firefighters hatched an idea: A charity hockey event with a couple of games and a focus on South Portland. Through the support and hard work of many firefighters and community members, the event has grown and raised over $70,000 in its first 5 years! The event is coming up!
MARCH 19, 2022 AT WILLIAM B. TROUBH ICE ARENA IN PORTLAND
Covid interrupted everything, (as we all know and don't need to be reminded of) but it's back for the 6th year and better than ever! These dedicated firefighters have not stopped and they are wicked excited to bring back a popular tradition!
The event is the largest fundraiser the South Portland Professional Firefighters conduct each year. All of the money raised is donated to a variety of non-profit organizations and charities - including generously to Cans for a Cure! This year's focus charity is the Maine Cancer Foundation.
There is a silent auction again this year with so many amazing items and new this year is a middle school skills competition!
Plan your Sunday, March 19! Lori Voornas from Q97.9 will be there with a chance to win an overnight stay at the Town & Country Inn and Resort in the White Mountains and $100 to Dunkin'! It's an afternoon filled with so much fun and so much support
