A new neighborhood restaurant is slated to open later this year in Portland.

Portland Food Map, a popular foodie source for all things restaurants, reports that two Portland restauranteurs have taken over the former 7-Eleven building at 170 Brighton Ave. According to the website, the building is currently under construction with an expected opening later this year. The Name of the spot will be 'The Continental'.

The owners, Michael Barbuto and Kevin Doyle, told Portland Food Map that the planned restaurant concept will be an "an “easy going space with a mid 90’s English/Irish pub feel." According to Portland Food Map, the two will draw on the inspiration of European pub fare to help put together the menu (umm, might I suggest Chicken Schnitzel and Plum Dumplings??).

The restaurant will also focus on a unique cocktail and beer selection. According to Portland Food Map, the two owners will have an extensive local beer list, and also focus on "slow pour nitro ales and stouts."

The building hasn't had much success since 7-Eleven moved out. It's been a few things since, including a market. However, nothing has stuck. The Libbytown neighborhood itself could use a spot like this. With many residential streets and young families around, a cool, welcoming joint seems like a welcome addition.

Barbuto and Doyle are no strangers to the Portland scene. The two co-own the popular CBG Bar & Grill on Congress St, right in the heart of Portland's Arts District. Barbuto and Doyle told Portland Food Map that they hope to have "The Continental" up and running by September of 2022.

I must say, I'm quite intrigued by this concept. I could probably survive off of international pub food and good beer, so I look forward to giving this a try.

It's also fun to see the area get a neighborhood spot. It's should be a nice complement to the busy Dougherty Field and the countless residential streets around the area.
