A wonderful opportunity for veterans and gold star families will be coming up in March. Our great vets and families will be able to hit the slopes for free on one of Maine's most beloved mountains.

What an incredible gesture by Lost Valley Ski Area in Auburn. And as the Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services' social media post says, the invitation is extended to immediate family members and dependents.

The free skiing goes from 9am to 4pm. However, it's not just about the skiing. It also includes live music in the afternoon, as well as a meet and greet with service organizations.

It seems like this will be a great way for veterans and their families to enjoy a fun day on the slopes. But it's also lining up to be a very helpful day as well.

Too many of our wonderful veterans and gold star families don't get the support they truly deserve. Hopefully, this event will be a good way for some to find that help they need, whether it through veteran's programs or just good old-fashioned support from others.

These are the kinds of events that truly illustrate why Maine is such a special state: numerous organizations coming together for a wonderful cause that is so important. A very hearty "thank you" goes out to Lost Valley Ski Area for opening its doors to the veteran and gold star family communities. We hope that everyone has a great day on and off the mountain that Saturday.
