Hikers Discover Dog Tied to a Tree, Brunswick PD Investigating
I will never understand how people can be so cruel to sweet, innocent animals.
Don't get me wrong, I know that pets can be a handful. They may chew your favorite shoes, treat your home as their personal toilet, or maybe they just don't get along with other animals in the home. It can be tiring and frustrating.
Plus, there's a financial commitment to animals. They have to eat, they have health issues just like us. Sometimes that commitment begins to feel like an unrealistic burden, especially in the midst of a pandemic.
And yet, I still can't imagine leaving a pup, a friend, tied to a tree and driving away.
That's what happened over the weekend in Brunswick. A black and white dog was discovered by hikers tied to a tree near Midcoast Humane Society with a pile of food and an empty water bowl. No word on how long the dog had been there before being discovered.
My guess is someone realized they could no longer care for the dog and wanted to surrender the dog to the shelter, but was ashamed.
Please know, if you are ever in a situation where you can no longer care for your pet, you don't have to be ashamed. Shelters are there to help. Animals are surrendered each and every day. They will not judge you. Their goal is to make sure animals are safe, happy, and healthy.
