I’ve Seen the Future of Rock and Roll and It Starts With an “X”
If you work for one of our Rock stations here in Portland...that would be WBLM or WCYY, you live, eat, sleep and breath Rock and Roll. Some of our incredible DJ's are not just incredible DJ's and music curators, they are also amazing musicians! There's Dominic Lavoie, Charlie Gaylord, the WBLM Band, and now Xander Nelson. The name is pronounced Zzzander, as Xander is short for Alexander (not sure if that was a secret or not, sorry.) Xander is our awesome new Morning Man on WCYY and just so happens to have released one of the best songs of 2017, "You Got A Problem."
See Xander and his band play it live this Saturday at his record release party at Empire in Portland. Xander will be playing with special guests Love to Burn and the always great Covered in Bees. First 50 tickets get a Free CD!
Xander Nelson was born and raised in Portland. By the start of middle school, he had figured out that the bowl-cut wasn't working, and in a new effort to get girls to like him, he picked up the electric guitar. Ironically, he ended up falling in love with the instrument, instead. After spending his teenage years playing in local bands, and honing his writing and performance skills, he attended Berklee College of Music, where he embarked on his first solo recordings. Upon returning home, he met Manny Urgiles, Kristian Terison and Chuck Martin, and the rest is, hopefully, soon to be history. Currently, he hosts the Morning Show on Portland's Alternative Rock Station, 94.3 WCYY, and teaches the next generation of Maine musicians at the Maine Academy of Modern Music.
