Just as our plow guys and public works people have finally finished clearing the streets and sidewalks following Winter Storm Fern, it looks like we may be dealing with another significant weather event this weekend.

Even before the final flakes from Fern had fallen, some meteorologists were talking about the possibility of a Nor'Easter hitting Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

It looks like the situation may end up being even worse.

Some meteorologists are suggesting that we could be dealing with a Bomb Cyclone.

What is a Bomb Cyclone?

According to Reuters, a bomb cyclone, also called bombogenesis, is basically a low-pressure storm that suddenly hits the gym and bulks up fast.

Air rushes inward, winds spin counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere, and gusts can roar past hurricane strength.  These storms usually show up in winter and can dump a lot of snow or rain in a hurry.  They grow quickly, peak after a few days, then fade out.  They form when surface conditions and the jet stream line up just right, often starting with a disturbance a few miles above the ground.

Will New England Be Pummeled By Another Storm This Weekend?

According to Weather.com, there is a good chance that much of the East Coast could be facing another storm.  As we are still a few days out, it is hard to determine exactly what kind of impact it could have on our area.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the meteorologists are saying that the storm would likely start in the Carolinas on Friday and work it's way north throughout the weekend.  If it ends up hitting us, it would likely be on Sunday evening or early Monday.  However, this could all change significantly.

As far as New England is concerned, it looks like we could see this storm hit us as a nor'easter, however, there is a good chance that it could strengthen into a bomb cyclone.

It is does strengthen, we could see high surf and rain/sleet on the coast.  Inland, we'd likely have to deal with snow and high winds.

As we get closer to the weekend, we'll have a more specific idea of what kind of weather we are going to get.  Clearly, we'll pass what we learn on to you.
