Here in rural New England, we rarely have to deal with heavy traffic.

Yes, there may be a small amount of "rush hour" traffic near places like Portland, Augusta, or Bangor, and we sometime find ourselves dealing with lots of tourist traffic in the middle of summer, but our traffic is nothing like you see near the country's bigger cities.

That is one of the reasons why so many people were puzzled by the lengthy backup on the southbound side of the I-95 through the Falmouth area on Monday morning.

We now what caused the delay.

I-95 Crash in Falmouth, Maine

According to an article on the WMTW website, a crash on I-95 southbound in Falmouth caused major delays Monday morning.

The Maine Turnpike Authority first issued an alert around 7:04 AM for a crash near mile 51 that blocked the left lane. Drivers were urged to use caution and expect delays. By 8:05 AM, officials said the roadway had reopened, though traffic remained slow in the area.

Drivers reported stop-and-go traffic backed up for miles. It’s unclear what caused the crash, how many vehicles were involved, or whether anyone was hurt. According to the Falmouth Fire Department, it was one of at least two crashes reported in the area Monday morning.
