If you’re flying out of Portland and still don’t have a Real ID, this is something you’ll want to know before you hit the security line.

Planning a trip? Well, if you are flying out of Portland, you’ll have to make sure you have everything you need before possibly getting a fine, according to WGME.

Let’s get into it. This is something you’ll want to know before you hit the TSA.

If you still don’t have the Real ID or another accepted form of ID like a passport, you are now being charged a $45 fee, as of Sunday, according to the article.

Flying Without a Real ID Could Cost Portland Travelers $45

This is due to a new Transportation Security Administration's system called TSA ConfirmID, which lets passengers verify their identity using a modernized alternative process.

But here is the catch guys, it costs money. Yes. What doesn’t now a days.

According to TSA, the person who does not present acceptable ID at the security line, can still fly by paying the fee and using TSA ConfirmID, which covers a 10 day travel period.

Officials say the system is meant to improve security, but not everyone is thrilled. The Secretary of State Shenna Bellows advises us all to get Real ID for travelling but she has been openly critical of the fee.

The issue is that some folks may not have seen this and didn’t know it changed in the first place.

Some travelers at Portland International Jetport say they didn’t know about the fee until they were already at the checkpoint, and had to scramble to find out what to do next.

The bottom line? If you plan to fly soon, double-check your ID now!
