As more and more individuals in Maine continue to stress about their wallet, there appears to be a little bit more bad news on the horizon.

According to WGME, experts are warning that electricity bills across the country are likely to reach a 12-year high. Here in Maine, CMP customers across the state are likely to see a 20% increase in their electricity bill during the summer months.

Electricity Companies Are Blaming The Complexity of the Power Grid

For several years now, experts have been warning that the aging infrastructure in America's power grid could lead to serious consequences. One of those consequences could be regular brownouts or blackouts due to strain on the grid.

To avoid those disruptions, upgrades to electricity infrastructure continue to take place. But many of those upgrade costs are passed on to the consumer based on increased demand.

Increased demand in Maine typically happens at the height of winter and throughout July and August when heat and humidity reach their highest levels in the state.

A Predicted Hot Summer Will Push Electricity Prices Sky High

While infrastructure issues are part of the price equation, the key reason experts are warning of a massive increase is a predicted scorching summer across the United States.

The NOAA is predicting a very warm summer for the majority of the country. While the forecast for Maine and New England looks a little soggy, temperatures and humidity are predicted to be high. That will lead to increased air conditioner usage pushing electricity bills up yet again.

You may be surprised to learn that the 'average' New England electricity bill is $767. That is expected to beyond $900 this summer.
