For most of us, grocery shopping isn't a weekly chore that we're truly looking forward to. Yes, it's essential to have food in your house, but the act of going to the store and picking out all the items can be less than ideal for many.

There can be many reasons why the grocery store experience isn't something that puts a big smile on your face. Stores can be crowded, lines can be long, or you may run into a few too many shoppers engaging in one of the most annoying practices at any grocery store.

That would be lane clogging. As you've probably noticed by now, major grocery store chains like Hannaford and Market Basket have narrow lanes so that can pack more product into the store for you to buy. More product equals more money.

But for far too many shoppers in Maine, the narrow lanes are something they can't seem to really wrap their head around. It's almost a guarantee that if you grocery shop during peak hours, you'll come across someone who has parked their cart in the center of an aisle without any ability for other shoppers to get around them. It's one of the 10 most annoying behaviors of people at grocery stores.

That's not to say shoppers shouldn't have the luxury to stop and peruse the items on the shelf to see what is the best fit for them. But if you were behind the wheel of a car, you wouldn't stop in the middle of an intersection to take a look at all the signs around you before continuing on.

Grocery shopping isn't fun, but if you're a lane clogger, you're making it worse. Pull that cart off to the side of aisle and enjoy your two-hour shopping experience while the rest of us try to get in and then out.
