Over the past few years, a ton of praise has been bestowed upon the state of Maine and its various vacation destinations. Much of that praise has centered around Bar Harbor, Camden, Kennebunkport, and Acadia National Park.

But as every good Mainer knows, there's a few other towns that welcome visitors with open arms, and probably deserve a little praise themselves. One of those towns is getting just that and more for 2024.

Real Simple Magazine has named Ogunquit, Maine, as the top vacation destination in the world for 2024. Ogunquit beat out the likes of London, the Greek Islands, and Japan to be featured as the best of the best this year.

Real Simple makes a simple case for Ogunquit being the top choice. It's all about having a peaceful vacation. The magazine says that visitors can enjoy tree-lined streets, quaint shops and eateries, and the sweet smell of salty air during their visit.

Ogunquit is already known for its terrific beaches, scenic walks, and world-class accommodations. The town is bustling every summer based on those factors alone. Now, receiving the spotlight as a top vacation destination will likely enhance Ogunquit's profile.

One other interesting highlight of Real Simple's profile on Ogunquit was its proximity to other great towns to visit. While they omit some other Maine hotspots like Kennebunkport, Kittery and Old Orchard Beach, the magazine states that Ogunquit is great cause of its close proximity to Boston and Providence.
