When you move to a new town and you’re living out of a hotel, you learn real quick that going from the office to your room and back again is a fast track to losing your mind. You’ve gotta escape the loop. Coffee is my excuse.

I love a great Americano. It gets me out of the building, into the world, and feeling like a semi-normal human again.

Somewhere between cup one and cup three, I found a few spots that just work. So here are my three favorite coffee shops in New Hampshire (so far).

There are days when working from home sounds great… until it isn’t. You need a different chair. A different view. A little background noise that isn’t the dishwasher or your own thoughts.

For me it’s all about the atmosphere.  I generally wear my headphones when I work in a public place.

That’s where a great local coffee shop comes in. I’m not talking about a place to grab caffeine and go, but somewhere that welcomes you and says make yourself at home for a bit. Somewhere with good coffee, solid snacks, friendly faces, and that unspoken understanding that you might be there for 20 minutes… or two hours.

I like the two hours more than the 20 minutes. I’ve found out that New Hampshire does this really well, especially in Dover, Portsmouth, and Manchester.

These are the kinds of coffee shops that don’t rush you out. They welcome you with open arms, invite you in, hand you a great cup of coffee, and let you settle into the moment. I like that.  I can feel creative in a place like this when I need to be.
