Wind-Whipped Flames Burn Kittery, Maine, Hotel
🔴Fire broke out at the Days Inn on the Route 1 bypass in Kittery around 12:30 p.m.

Fire quickly engulfed the Days Inn on the Route 1 Bypass in Kittery early Wednesday afternoon.
Thick black smoke poured from the hotel on the southbound side as gusty winds whipped the flames in the two story hotel after 12:30 p.m. The Route 1 Bypass was closed in the northbound lanes. A rubbernecking delay developed heading north.
Wind caused the fire to spread to brush and several other buildings across the highway, according to Strafford County Scanner Alerts.
Firefighters from both New Hampshire and Maine joined Kittery firefighters to extinguish the fire.
It's not yet known how many guests and staff were at the hotel at the time.
