Imagine not living in Maine?

Seriously, where else would you rather be? Maine has a little bit of everything that defines the perfect place to live.

Maine is One of the Most Beautiful States in the Nation

First off, the state is beautiful. Whether it's the western foothills, fabulous parks, Downeast, or the vast and amazing coastline, Maine absolutely shines with its diverse and wondrous scenery.

Maine is also famously remote. If you're not a fan of the human race, then this state is ideal. Even the largest city, Portland, has more of a suburban-town feel than that of an actual city.

And now, you can add being one of the best states for paddling to the list, thanks to a recent article that spotlighted this popular pastime.

Maine is One of the Best Regions in the World for Paddling

The site Paddling Magazine put out a list of the 10 Best Paddling Trips for 2025. It included a murderer's row of locations, featuring powerhouses like Canada, Alaska, Washington, and the United Kingdom.

Also on that list? Our very own state of Maine. The Pine Tree State received a lot of love for its variety and access to an abundance of water options.

Here’s a bit of what Paddling Magazine had to say about Maine’s inclusion:

"The state’s pristine rivers and remote Appalachian lakes have a reputation as the crowning jewels of the 740-mile Northern Forest Canoe Trail. Maine also offers outstanding whitewater canoe tripping on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, along with fine family paddling opportunities in wilderness areas like Rangeley Lakes. Not to be outdone, Acadia National Park is a dreamscape for sea kayaking in coastal Maine."

That’s a veritable list of incredible paddling spots that rivals any region in the world—let alone the country.

Plus, as mentioned above, there’s the incredible variety Maine has to offer. From rivers to open ocean, Mainers and visitors alike have a little bit of everything to choose from.

Congratulations to our wonderful state for receiving this recognition. Here's hoping for even more love like this in the future to truly show how incredible Maine continues to be.
