Maine’s Best Hiking Destination: The Trails of Moosehead Lake

Maine is a true national treasure.

From its beautiful rocky coastline to the rolling foothills and mountains, the Pine Tree State is a natural wonderland. I like to call it an environmental amusement park for all those looking for adventure and serenity.

Now with more people stepping outside to enjoy nature, it should be to no surprise to see a rise in attention from national publications. This includes a recent hiking post from one of the most iconic magazines in the country, Reader's Digest.

The popular periodical published an article about the best hike in every state. While you could make an argument for about 100 trails here in Maine being the best, the one chosen by Reader's Digest is an outstanding choice. The magazine's selection is the Mount Kineo State Park trail network.

Located right on Moosehead Lake, this picturesque hike combines four trails that take you up to the summit of Mount Kineo, as well as circle the park. The mountain itself has an elevation of 1,789 feet, making it quite a sight, especially considering it abuts a lake.

The trail is rated easy to moderate depending on the reference guide you use. However, it's pretty safe to say that the majority of folks out there could easily complete these trails.
