Maine Man Missing for Over 30 Hours Rescued by Warden and His Dog
An incredible video shared with the media shows the rescue of an Etna, Maine, man who got lost in a bog.
The video is courtesy of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife. It shows the conclusion of the department's heroic rescue of Joseph Nolin. According to WGME, the 74-year-old Nolin got lost while out checking his game cameras on Sunday. He unfortunately got confused, and would be stuck in a bog for more than a day.
WGME reports that it would be a warden and his dog that ultimately became the true heroes of this story. According to the station, Warden Michael Latti and his tracking dog Luna were able to find Nolin on Monday afternoon. Nolin first heard Luna's collar bell before seeing the black lab approach him. It had been about 30 hours of exposure for Nolin.
According to WGME, Nolin was experiencing both hypothermia and dehydration. He was airlifted to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
It's wonderful to hear that this story has a happy ending. As much as we love the Maine outdoors, it can be a very dangerous game. Thankfully, we have such a wonderful warden community in the state, along with the amazing dogs providing support. Or maybe it's the wardens providing support to the dogs? Either way, they are true Maine heroes.
A hearty thanks to Mark, Luna, and all who help keep Mainers as safe as they can. And best wishes to Jospeh Nolin as he makes his recovery.
According to WGME, wardens are recommending that folks let people know where they are going if they hit the wilderness. It's especially important as the weather gets worse.
