Maine Named One of the 15 Best States for Wildlife
More accolades were sent Maine's way, this time in regard to its incredible environment and those who call it home.
The popular site Animals Around the Globe published an article all about America's incredible wildlife. The site highlighted the 15 states with the most fascinating animal family, which (unsurprisingly) included Maine.
In fact, the Pine Tree State came in as the 11th ranked state for wildlife. That's a very respectable score for Maine, a state that prides itself in its wondrous environment and wildlife.
Here is what Animals Around the Globe had to say about choosing Maine for this exclusive list.
Moose, black bears, and white-tailed deer are commonly seen in the state’s woodlands. Along the coast, you can find seals, puffins, and a range of seabirds. Acadia National Park offers excellent opportunities for observing Maine’s wildlife.
That little writeup perfectly encapsulates what makes Maine so unique. This state's diverse landscape is welcoming for so many types of species. Grasslands, forests, wetlands, foothills, rocky mountains, and coastlines allow for a variety of animals to live in habitats that best suit their needs for sustainability. And even with development seemingly out of control in some communities, the majority of the state is still wonderfully remote.
Mainers are also lucky with the number of areas to go and experience this wildlife firsthand. Whether it's one of the parks, beaches, hiking trails, or bodies of water, there's a great chance a visitor will witness Maine's exceptional animals.
While Maine did miss out on the top 10, it should be pointed out that it was the only state in New England to receive recognition. Just more evidence of how this state leaves the rest of the region in the dust.
The number one spot on the list went to Alaska, which had to have been the clear-cut favorite. That state has more bears than people. I don't know if that's true, but it sounds good.
