Cooper Flagg Breaks Another Scoring Record

Flagg became the first teenager in NBA history to score 30+ points in consecutive games, following a 49-point performance against the Charlotte Hornets and a 34-point outing against the Houston Rockets. I should also mention that those 49 points set the single-game scoring record by a teenager. This man can’t be stopped.

Clearly, Flagg is everything, and more, than what was advertised to teams. The phenom seems to be getting better by the game as he continues to do it all for an undermanned Dallas Mavericks squad missing several regulars due to injury.

It’s actually quite impressive that Dallas is only a few games out of a wild-card spot, and that’s largely due to how quickly Flagg has adapted to the NBA game.

The young star has done just about everything so far this season. He’s been the unquestioned leader, often playing multiple positions—including point guard—because of continued injuries on the roster. That’s a lot to ask of any young player, and asking it of a 19-year-old with only a few months of pro experience speaks volumes. Clearly, this team trusts Flagg—and for good reason.

Currently, Flagg leads the team in scoring (19.8 points per game), ranks third in rebounding (6.6), second in assists (4.1), and first in steals (1.2). Those numbers have continued to improve throughout the season, which is evident when looking at his performance over the past month.

Will Cooper Flagg Win Rookie of the Year?

While making a playoff run might be a difficult task for Flagg and the Mavs, a run at Rookie of the Year is certainly within reach. Flagg and former Duke teammate Kon Knueppel appear to be the runaway favorites for the coveted award—at least for now. Of course, there’s still plenty of basketball left to be played.

It should also be mentioned that Flagg will compete in the 2026 Rising Stars Game during All-Star Weekend. The game will be played on February 13.
