It's a small batch artisan potato chip company, Vintage Maine Kitchen, moving from Freeport to Pownal.

The company was approved to go into the ground floor of the former North Pownal General Store. That raised some eyebrows and concerns of neighbors of the former store. According to the Portland Press Herald, the town of only 1,500, approved the potato chip maker with a few restrictions. They made changes to how long they can be open and when they get deliveries, to help the neighbors not be disturbed by the new business.

Only one resident, who lives right next to the old general store, complained. This couple has been at their home for 45 years and saw the value of general store...but not of a potato chip maker.

Vintage Maine Kitchen has tried very hard to reassue everyone, that they are a small-batch potato chip maker and they have no intention of cranking out potatoe chips in a big factory setting like Humpty Dumpty. In fact, the apartments on the second floor are happy to have the new downstairs tenant.

One thing is for sure, the chips sound amazing! A family run business using local ingredients to make fresh, healthier, classic New England-style potato chips. There are five flavors: Ordinary - Sea Salt, Maine Maple - Sweet/Salty, Thankful - Savory Herb, Cookout - Smoky Salt and Pepper and Plain Maine...just your basic chip. Although, it sounds like there's nothing basic or plain about these Maine chips.
