MLK Weekend- Events in Maine

Martin Luther King Jr Day is this Monday the 16th. The first MLK Day in the US was in 1986. Here are some local events planned to celebrate the memory and the message of this great American this year.

• NAACP hosts "A Family Celebration" at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland. The day includes a Youth Summit in the morning and an afternoon of theater and arts. The day concludes with a dinner celebration and more performances. Tickets are still available
• UMO: MLK Breakfast Celebration 8:30-10:30 am. Wells Conference Center. Ticket info here. The celebration is free to UMaine students.
• York: Shay Stewart-Bouley activist and writer of the "Black Girl in Maine" blog will host a program on facing down racism. Saturday, 3 to 5pm at the York Public Library.
