The South Portland Food Cupboard just had one thing to say, thank you!

Just like everywhere else in the world, food pantries have been dealing with supply shortages too. Only instead of not getting the hot toy, this Christmas, food pantry shortages might mean people don't eat.

He came at the right time with the right stuff. He didn't call ahead. He just picked up the right stuff from his heart, and there it was.

The executive director of the South Portland Food Cupboard, Dwayne Hopkins, told News Center Maine,

I think part of it is the end of the quarter, end of the year, and supply chain issues. It's up in the air. You just never know what's going to be available.

This one pantry alone gives out 13 tons of food each week. Grocery donations are down, and the staff has been worried about how to cover the holidays. That's when 'The Mystery Man' showed up. An anonymous donor, that workers dubbed 'The Mystery Target Man.' He pulled up, unloaded 12 Target bags filled with cake mixes, flour, spices, and can openers. And then he just left. Dwayne told News Center Maine,

He came at the right time with the right stuff. He didn't call ahead. He just picked up the right stuff from his heart, and there it was.

Can openers? The pantry was the most excited about this thoughtful touch. Often people living in their cars or motel rooms don't have them. The pantry's Facebook page said it all!

This story was so kind, so unexpected and so needed Inside Edition actually picked it up!

You don't have to be mysterious as the need is still there. The South Portland Food Cupboard is looking for canned goods like corn and carrots.
