You know what they say about pumpkin records: they’re only set to be squashed.

On the same week that the Yankees’ Aaron Judge broke Roger Maris’ record for taters, another New Yorker broke a New Hampshire man’s record for largest pumpkin ever grown in the United States, according to USA Today.

Scott Andrusz of Williamsville, New York, is the new Pumpkin King, with his offering at the Great Pumpkin Farm weighing in at 2,554 pounds. This narrowly beat the record set in 2018 by Boscawen, New Hampshire’s Steve Geddes.

For his efforts, Geddes won $6,000 at the Deerfield Fair, according to Time. Andrusz, meanwhile, received $5,500, according to Gothamist, showing that even the pumpkin market continues to fluctuate in these uncertain times.

Andrusz, who owns a farm in Lancaster, New York, plans to use the prize money to replenish his soil for next year’s competition (hear that, Red Sox? It is possible to win and hold onto your farm system).

It’s been quite a week in the world of competitive pumpkinning, as a Tyngsborough man set an all-time record at the Topsfield Fair, eclipsing all other entrants in the fair’s 204-year history.

The record for biggest pumpkin ever still belongs to Italy’s Stefano Cutrupi, who grew a pumpkin that tipped the scales at 2,703 pounds just last fall, per USA Today.

Meanwhile, the U.K. record still belongs to twin brothers Ian and Stuart Paton, whose pumpkin weighed 2,433 pounds. Halloween, twins, and a giant pumpkin. Not creepy at all!

Congratulations to all who won and compete. And remember, it's not whether you win or lose – it’s how low your local Starbucks is running on Pumpkin Spice Lattes.
