New License Plate Would Help Support Maine Lighthouses
The Maine Lighthouse Trust has received approval from Maine's Secretary of State to go ahead and gather support for a new license plate that would help with the preservation of lighthouses across the state.
The trust needs 2,000 Mainers to pre-order the specialty plate before the Secretary of State will draft legislation for final approval from lawmakers.
The plates are $25.00 and can be ordered at mainelighthousetrust.org. If, somehow, they don't get enough pre-orders the $25.00 will be refunded.
The trust estimates the new plates will bring in $200,000 a year which will go to repairs and general up-keeps on the lighthouses throughout the state.
