New Taco Place Taking Over Vacant Copper Branch Location in Portland, Maine
Last November, fans of the vegan chain Copper Branch were surprised to find that the restaurant in Portland's Old Port had abruptly closed. Various reasons were given as to why Copper Branch decided to pour a ton of money into the space, only to shut down permanently three years later. Its departure left behind a prime vacancy for the right entrepreneur.
According to MaineBiz, that vacancy will be filled by a new taco restaurant. Their insider revealed that Taco A Go Go will take over the vacated space left behind by Copper Branch. Taco A Go Go doesn't have a presence on social media or the internet yet, but based on their name, you can assume they'll be serving tacos. They also shouldn't be confused with the Texas-based chain Tacos A Go Go, which is plural.
Perhaps a taco joint will fare better than a vegan restaurant in the curious location. Canada-based Copper Branch was the fastest growing plant-based, fast-casual chain in North America prior to the pandemic. The opening of the Copper Branch in Portland was only their third restaurant in the United States, and seen as a trademark location for the company. But things came apart when the lunch crowd fizzled, thanks to the pandemic.
But the lunch crowds are slowly starting to return, and tacos are one of the universal foods that anyone and everyone can enjoy. While the space Copper Branch left behind is still excellent, some likely alterations and changes will need to take place before the new taco restaurant will be ready to open.
