Over 100 Coronavirus Cases Now Reported in Maine

18 new cases of Coronavirus in Maine have been reported by the Maine CDC putting the total over the 100 mark.

Dr. Nirav Shah reported Moday that the number of COVID-10 cases in Maine is now is at 107, which is an increase of 18 new cases since Sunday. 12 people are currently hospitalized and 3 have recovered.

Cumberland County is still the hot spot with the most cases at 66, but that makes sense as Cumbreland County has the largest population in the state. The virus is spreading there by community transmission, which is transmission from someone with the virus who had no known contact with another confirmed case or traveled from a country affected by the pandemic.

There have been 2791 negative test results.

The best advice given by Dr. Shah at today's press conference is to treat it like the coronavirus is already in your community and take the steps necessary to limit your potential exposure to the virus.

Social distancing is the key to flattening out the curve of the spread of the coronavirus, a point Dr Shah stressed is vitally important for Mainers to practice. A low curve means that the virus is spreading slowly which gives doctors more time and resources to treat more people. The higher the curve, the most people get sick at once and medical facilities get overwhelmed.

An Executive Order from Governor Mills still stands for all restaurants and bars to close their dining rooms and offer take-out, delivery or drive-thru only for customers. She also prohibited all gatherings of more than 10 people until further notice and urged businesses like gyms, theaters, and shopping malls, to close for the next two weeks in an effort to minimize public gatherings.
