Over 5,000 Jack-O-Lanterns Are Showcased at This New England Spectacular
Creating jack-o-lanterns is one of the quintessential pastimes of the spooky season, and this seasonal event takes the classic Halloween hobby to a whole other level.
The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is happening at the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, Rhode Island, and 100% worth a road trip. According to the Zoo's website, it features a whopping 5,000+ pumpkins.
Wait...5,000? That's an unbelievable amount of jack-o-lanterns. And if you think that number's impressive, another fact posted on the site will really blow your mind.
All of the event's pumpkins are designed by Passion for Pumpkins out of Oxford, Massachusetts, and are routinely enhanced for the duration of the show so everything remains in top condition. The website revealed that the pumpkin carvers "...expect to go through about 20,000 pumpkins during the course of the 32-night run." Isn't that wild? That takes an unbelievable amount of dedication, and we are so here for it.
The theme of this year's Spectacular celebrates 75 years of television, according to the Zoo:
Presented by Citizens, guests will share in the nostalgia of their favorite tv shows, artistically carved on thousands of pumpkins. From Mr. Ed to The Walking Dead, this year’s Spectacular has something for everyone. Visitors will have a “yabba-dabba-do time” while “taking a break from all their troubles,” as the show’s musical theme songs accompany the experience.
Without a doubt, there will be something here for everyone to enjoy.
The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular trail is open nightly, rain or shine, from 6pm-10:30pm. There will also be special family fun nights and sensory-friendly nights as well. You can learn more about those offerings here.
