It's been a year of big announcements amongst the amusement parks throughout New England. From Water Country to Canobie Lake Park to Santa's Village and Funtown, new attractions have either opened or will be coming soon, to the delight of park-goers. Not wanting to feel left out, the only beachside amusement park in Maine plans to add a new ride this summer in Old Orchard Beach.

Shared on Facebook by Palace Playland, it will be called the HyperJump. It's a fresh take on a classic-style spin ride that has been featured at amusement parks and fairs across the country. Riders will sit three to a row and be "launched" into hyperspace aboard a florescent-lighted rocket.

With a name like HyperJump, riders can reasonably expect the new attraction to have some speed. It's expected to be an action ride with fast spinning movement and a layer of up-and-down as well. If you easily get motion sickness, you may want to sit this one out.

This will be the third year in the last five that Palace Playland opens a new attraction. In 2018, the amusement park made headlines by bringing a new rollercoaster to Maine. The Sea Viper, an Italian-made roller coaster, replaced the longtime Galaxi rollercoaster.

Last year, Palace Playland introduced another new thrill ride, the Cliffhanger. The ride itself is meant to simulate hang gliding without the inherent risk of actually hang gliding. Instead, riders of the Cliffhanger will be lifted a few feet off the ground, then spun at a 65 degree angle. As the ride builds speed and lifts, riders will feel like they are hang gliding approximately 50 feet in the air.
