It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win. And this win has the New England Patriots just one victory away from another trip to the Super Bowl.

For the first time since 2019, the New England Patriots are headed to the AFC Championship Game after beating the Houston Texans 28–16 on Sunday afternoon, in quite a slobberknocker of a game in snowy Foxborough.

It may have been ugly at times, but all that matters in the postseason is moving on—and the Patriots did enough to do just that.

It was another outstanding performance by the Patriots’ defense, as they suffocated the Texans and forced C.J. Stroud into a number of ill-advised throws. New England ended up forcing five turnovers, including four interceptions of Stroud. One of those picks was even returned for a touchdown by Marcus Jones, who continues to have a dynamite season.

As for the Patriots’ offense—well, not great. Drake Maye did finish with three touchdown passes, including a one-handed catch by Kayshon Boutte, but he also fumbled four times, losing two of them. The Texans’ defensive line, led by Will Anderson Jr., harassed Maye all game long and made life rather difficult for the young quarterback. However, he still did enough to keep the Patriots comfortably ahead in the second half.

The New England Patriots Will Face the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game

The Patriots now head to Denver this coming Sunday for the AFC Championship Game to take on the Broncos. Denver beat the Buffalo Bills in overtime to book their trip to the game. However, it was a costly win, as the Broncos will be without starting quarterback Bo Nix due to a fractured ankle.

That means former Patriots QB Jarrett Stidham will get the start for Denver on Sunday.
