PHOTOS: Portland Sea Dogs Crew Clearing Snow for Thursday’s Home Opener at Hadlock
It's almost time for Portland Sea Dogs baseball, but mother nature hasn't been very cooperative with the 2017 Sea Dogs schedule. After the cruel April Fool's joke she played on Saturday, crews were out in force to clear the snow dumped on Hadlock Field.
The Seadogs have only had to postpone their home opener 4 times in the franchise's 23 years and they make every effort possible to make sure the field is playable on opening day. One year they brought in a helicopter to help dry the field out for the home opener and this year they used a new technique of spreading black sand on the field to help speed the melting process.
But that's just the field. The stands have to be cleared of snow as well and that's where everyone grabs a shovel and starts digging, placing snow into a chute that send it down to the field to be removed.
The home opener for the Portland Sea Dogs is still scheduled for Thursday, April 6 a 6PM against the Reading Fightin Phils. Get tickets for that game or any game this season below, and let's keep our fingers crossed that mother nature doesn't throw us any more curve balls before Thursday.
