Goose Is Returning to Maine for a Massive Portland Show This Fall

Add another great rock show to the growing list of concerts coming to Southern Maine this year.

One of the most popular jam bands in the country, Goose, is returning to Maine this fall for a show in Portland. The band is set to perform on Sunday, November 15, at the Cross Insurance Arena. It will be Goose's first appearance in Maine since its two-night run at Thompson's Point in June 2024.

What is the Band Goose all About?

Formed about 12 years ago in Connecticut, Goose has enjoyed a steady rise in popularity. The band's sound is best described as progressive rock with elements of jam band, funk, and a touch of Americana. Honestly, the best word to describe Goose is simply "fun." At the end of the day, they're an incredibly enjoyable and groovy listen.

Goose is led by singer and guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, a musician who will absolutely blow your mind with his guitar work. He has delivered some of the best live solos I've ever witnessed, and I'd put him right up there with the likes of Trey Anastasio and John Mayer.

What is it Like Seeing Goose Live?

Another highlight of seeing Goose live is watching the work of the incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach. One minute he's hammering away on the keys with a guitar strapped to his back. The next, he'll slide that guitar around and start ripping through a solo. And he does all of it while providing backup vocals. It's precision at its finest.

The first time I saw Goose was in 2022 when they opened for the Trey Anastasio Band at the Cross Insurance Arena. I hadn't listened to a single note of their music beforehand, so I went in with a completely blank slate.

The very first song they played, "Turbulence and the Night Rays," has since become one of my all-time favorite songs. In fact, I find myself playing the chord progression on my keyboard all the time just to jam along. I'll even head over to YouTube and rewatch that performance. Rick's solo is absolutely flawless.

When do Tickets go on sale for Goose's Show in Portland?

Tickets for the show go on sale this week. Presale begins Wednesday, June 3, with general ticket sales starting Friday, June 10. You can find more information through the Cross Insurance Arena or the State Theatre website, which is presenting the show.
