For avid Red Sox viewers on NESN, Jerry Remy has been a cornerstone to their Boston baseball experience. Nicknamed "the Remdawg", Remy has transitioned from being just a color commentator to a larger-than-life figure in New England. Red Sox fans will undoubtedly have Remy in their thoughts and prayers now, as according to NESN, Remy has been diagnosed with cancer for a sixth time.

It was about two years ago when Remy announced to NESN viewers and his social media following that he would be stepping away from broadcasting to fight cancer with everything he had. His then broadcast colleague, Don Orsillo, led his own charge of support on-air and on social media, supporting his close friend Remy in a difficult battle. This season, Remy had been part of about half the Red Sox broadcasts on NESN but will take an indefinite leave to once again battle cancer.

Dennis Eckersley and Steve Lyons are expecting to fill-in for Remy alongside Dave O'Brien for the remainder of the regular season telecasts on NESN.
