Rolling Thunder Inc., Chapter Two Maine, will be holding a motorcycle ride and cookout on July 13th to support the thousands of veterans that are homeless, in Maine and around the country.

Here are some heartbreaking statistics about veteran homelessness from last year:

On a single night in January 2018:

  • 37,878 veterans were homeless.
  • Nine percent of homeless adults in our country are veterans.
  • Most homeless veterans were men, but there were also 3,571 female veterans that were homeless.

Keep in mind that homeless figures are very inaccurate, there are far more than are actually reported.

Rolling Thunder will begin the day at the Maine Veterans' Home on Rt.1 in Scarborough. Residents at the home will receive rides on motorcycles, side cars and trikes. A special guest rider will be a 99 year old WWII veteran.

The ride will start with a blessing of the bikes at 10:30. An hour long ride will end at the Huot House in Saco where they will be hosting a cookout.

All the proceeds from the ride will go toward supporting the residents of the Huot House in Saco and the Veterans Career House in Biddeford. Both offer transitional housing for homeless veterans.
