Scarborough Police & Students Salute Veteran On His 101st B-Day
This is the stuff that always gets us right in the feels. When we see a post on Facebook of an elderly hero being recognized and celebrated on such an amazing milestone by the community, it just makes our hearts swell wicked big.
The hero's name is Frank Averill who is a resident at the Maine Veterans' Homes in Scarborough.
A group of first responders from the Scarborough Police and Fire Departments took time from their busy day to honor Frank on his 101st birthday on Wednesday.
They handed their friend a challenge coin to show their deep appreciation and gathered for a great group photo to document the special occasion. Heroes saluting a hero is absolutely way up there on our list of things to behold.
According to the Scarborough Police Department's Facebook page, some wonderful and very talented kids showed their respect for Frank Averill's service on his birthday as well.
The students are from Scarborough Public School's Mixed Chorus. They beautifully sang Happy Birthday with some terrific piano accompaniment that surely gave this local hero a big smile.
Kudos to the Scarborough Police and Fire Departments as well as the singers from Scarborough Schools. This story is what love to see more of in our communities.
A seemingly small act of kindness like this has enormous impact for the greater good. Great vibes all around! Our veterans are certainly deserving of our recognition. We can't thank them enough.
Happy Birthday Frank Averill from your friends at WBLM.
