Truck drivers and mechanics for Shaw's supermarkets are returning to work as negotiations are scheduled to continue, according to union officials.

A total of 65 workers at Shaw's facilities in Scarborough and Wells - members of Teamsters Local 340 - authorized a strike in November and walked off the job on Monday, but returned as both sides will return to the bargaining table on Thursday, according to union business agent Joseph Piccone.

"Solidarity made this happen, believe in the power of the Teamsters Union! We ask you to stand ready if the need again arises," Piccone wrote.

On the union Facebook page, Piccone said on Tuesday that the strike had an "immediate impact on grocery deliveries to Shaw's stores." Company officials said in Monday the chain prepared for a possible work stoppage and deliveries would continue as scheduled.

Both sides agree that they had met at least 20 times since August. Piccone said that Shaw's has had a counter offer to present since February but did not have anyone authorized to negotiate.

According to a report by NBC Boston, the attorney representing Shaw's parent company in negotiations had quit.

A spokesman for Shaw's did not immediately return a message on Wednesday morning from Seacoast Current.

The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
