Sign of Fall: Shipyard Pumpkinhead Pete Running Around Portland, Maine
The last thing I want to do is rush summer away as I bask in every sunny day we have left. There is still so much to do and warm weather to enjoy but that doesn’t mean we aren't getting excited about the fall pleasures of Maine.
I started my morning off with quite the sign of fall being around the corner: a giant pumpkinhead mascot roaming the streets of Portland.
I got out of my car and as I was walking out of the parking garage, I stopped abruptly to make sure I was seeing what I thought I was seeing. Is that a giant pumpkin man walking toward Three Dollar Deweys? Is he in a suit?
Shipyard Brewing Pumpkinhead Ale
It’s that time of year. Pumpkin is back.
We’re still in the heat of August but that hasn’t stopped us from getting what we wait all year for: Apple cider flavored everything, pumpkin donuts, spiced coffees, and Shipyard Brewing Pumpkinhead Ale.
The beloved fall ale comes out only once a year and is welcomed warmly by locals anticipating the release. It is like taking a sip of fall with pumpkin flavors and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. If it’s done right, you’ll have a delicious sensory overload with a pint of Pumpkinhead with a glass rim of sugar and cinnamon.
Their website even suggests a side shot of spiced rum or vanilla vodka. I don’t hate the sound of that.
When Does Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale Release?
Well, I missed that one. I thought I had a revelation this morning seeing a Pumpkinhead saunter across the street in front of me, having the immediate thought: “Pumpkinhead Ale must be releasing today.”
I was late to that game.
This guy’s been movin’ and groovin’ through the streets of Portland all month. The brewing company posted on Instagram on August 2 declaring “PUMPKINHEAD IS BACK”.
Have you had your first sip of the year yet? Is it too early?
