Alright, some of y'all need to take several seats.

Look, I'm not mad. I'm just, disappointed.

There's a meme going around right now that's pretty fantastic and it sums up my thoughts and feelings quite well. It's two people sitting on the couch watching a horror movie.

Young scared couple is watching horror on TV.

The first panel is a line from the movie, "No Billy, don't go out, if you do it you could die, Billy? Noooo!" Next, the guy on the couch says, "It's always the same with horror movies, they tell them not to go out and then they end up dead. Luckily no one is that stupid in real life."

And it ends with the couple staring at you in the face with judgment because Y'ALL CAN'T STAY HOME. Guess what? You're the dummy that gets murdered in the horror movie.

Look, I get it. We live in a culture that's anti-shaming. Sometimes, that's fine. But there are times, I think, where shaming gets the point across quite well and a global pandemic seems like an appropriate time.

When you responsible folk go out because you have to, for work or necessities, look around. How many out of state license plates do you see? I'm seeing people left and right on Facebook talking about how the summer homes they care for are being opened up earlier than ever because people are retreating here and acting like this is some sort of vacation.

It's not.

I shouldn't have to say that.

Yet, here we are.

It's getting so bad, between the tourists and the locals who don't listen, that York County is now showing community transmission of COVID-19. Not surprising after people went to local beaches and tourist hot spots in droves.

So yesterday it was announced by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry that the following state parks are closed effective today, Friday, March 27th:

Crescent Beach State Park (Cape Elizabeth)
Ferry Beach State Park (Saco)
Fort Baldwin (Phippsburg)
Fort Popham (Phippsburg)
Kettle Cove State Park (Cape Elizabeth)
Mackworth Island (Falmouth)
Popham Beach State Park (Phippsburg)
Reid State Park (Georgetown)
Scarborough Beach State Park (Scarborough
Two Lights State Park (Cape Elizabeth)

Here's the thing, being outside is more than okay. In fact, it's encouraged! But don't be going outside and meeting up with all your friends. Take a hike! (No, really!) Just go solo! Or trails and other public spaces will be next.

Ok, I'll step off my soapbox now. I'm just so frustrated. I, like so many others want to go back to "normal" life and the more people continue going out, pretending life is "normal", the longer we'll have to wait. Like the good kids in class losing out on recess because Johnny refuses to listen.

Don't be Johnny.

Don't be the dumb people in horror movies.

Don't be the reason why we can't have nice things.
