St. Patrick's Day started off with a bracing dip in the waters of East End beach early this morning for the St. Patty's Day Plunge to raise money for the Portland Firefighters Children's Burn Foundation.

Portland is filled with social opportunities this St. Patrick's Day! Beer, bagpipes, shamrocks and shillelaghs can be found around every corner along with Irish themed menus and lots and lots of beer!

The Maine Irish Heritage Center, on the corner of Gray and State streets in Portland,  has put together a full day of entertainment and culture for you:

  • The Maine Irish Heritage Center will be hosting the Portland St. Patrick's Day Parade starting at noon today from the Fish Pier on Commercial Street and making its way up to Bell Buoy Park. Participants should be there at 11, you start marching at noon.
  • Post-parade follies to take place at the maine Irish Heritage Center where you can warm up with a cash bar, lots of dancing, food and fun starting bat 1:30.
  • Maine author Jack Cashman will be reading from his new book, "An Irish Immigrant Story" from 1 to 3.

It's a beautiful day to get your Irish on and socialize after a long winter!
