Swimming Banned At Several Popular Maine Beaches
Following Monday afternoon's fatal shark attack near Harpswell, the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry has announced a temporary ban on swimming at several very popular Maine beaches.
According to a Facebook post, there is now a temporary ban on swimming at Popham Beach and Reid State Park.
Lifeguards at those beaches are asking people not to go into the water past their waists (for adults). Additionally, they are asking that people not use boogie boards, surf boards, or other flotation devices.
Monday's attack by a great white shark, the first fatal attack in Maine's history, claimed the life of 63 year old Julie Dimperio Holowach. Holowach was a resident of New York City who has heavily involved in the fashion industry.
