He was a singer, a songwriter, a record producer, an arranger, an actor and a painter born David Jones in Brixton, London, England on January 8, 1947. Was there anything this guy couldn't do?
It's pretty great that on the 43rd anniversary of the release of David Bowie's Aladdin Sane, we get a few of the best performances from Portland's Bowie tribute. It's Aladdin Maine!
An amazing cast of local musicians performed for 1500 hundred fired-up Bowie fans at the State Theatre this past Saturday night. WBLM was honored to be a part of Portland's tribute to the rock icon who has entertained and inspired millions. Proceeds from the event were donated to the Maine Cancer Foundation and the 3 hour Bowie love fest made us all proud to live in this great city.
Tonight(1/23) at 7pm, we will gather at the State Theatre to honor the life and music of David Bowie. In the early 70's, he sang that kids were going through "cha, cha, cha, changes" and encouraged us to fearlessly "turn and face the strange" inspiring so many of us here in Blimpville and millions all over the world to be ourselves.
I gotta believe David Bowie and Mick Ronson would approve of this amazing kid's guitar playing. His name is Toby Lee and he's just 10 years old. Incredible!
