There's another amazing piece of property for sale along U.S. Route 1 in Maine, but this one comes with a backstory that feels like it may be ripped from the pages of the newest "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie script. It is a gorgeous spectacle of old school architecture that may come with a few "old friends" in tow.

The home is located at 121 E Main St. in Searsport, Maine, and according to the Bangor Daily News, it was built by a former sea captain named John P. Nichols in 1865. It was transitioned into a bed and breakfast, called the Homeport Inn, and now is for sale for $829,000. But beyond the home/business aspect, there's the backstory, and it's a good one.

Apparently Captain Nichols must have made some friends along his travels. He hit the open ocean at age 11 until he retired at age 47, the BDN reported. But inside of his amazing home, the latest caretakers believe there are spirits still roaming the hallways. They aren't the kind of ghosts that are unruly, just the kind that may want a midnight snack in the kitchen. Let's just call them permanent tenants.

The house has also had its share of famous guests including the actor who played Leatherface in the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," according to the newspaper.

For a house built by an old sea captain, it sure has a lot of stories. It also has a lot of bedrooms (12) and bathrooms (10). There's also an attached restaurant just to add some flavor.

Enjoy your tour through the house courtesy of Sotheby's International Realty (there are more photos here), and who knows, maybe you'll be spending a night there this summer. Ghosts and all.
