According to WMTW, 2017 was a devastating year for drug overdoses in Maine. Drug related deaths jumped 11% last year and no age group was exempt. The youngest to die of an overdose was 18 and the oldest was 94. The largest number of deaths took place in Cumberland, York and Penobscot counties.

Many officials are blaming a majority of the 418 deaths on Fentanyl, which is 30-50 times more potent than heroin. A lot of the overdoses included a mixture of drugs and 85% involved an opioid.

Officials continue to fight the flow of drugs into our state.
