9/30/1965 (50 years ago today) - Let's remember the occasionally great "Shindig!" show on NBC-TV tonight: Donovan makes his U.S. television debut performing his classic single "Colours"; also appearing on the show are Lesley Gore (doing "It's My Party" and "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows" ), The Hollies ("I'm Alive"), The Searchers ("Needles And Pins") and The Turtles ("It Ain't Me Babe"). Can't get much more '65 than that!!!

9/30/1974 (41 years ago today) - Police are called in during a Lynyrd Skynyrd / Blue Oyster Cult concert when a fist fight broke out between the band's sound board engineers. Skynyrd's roadie claimed the sound had been deliberately turned off during the bands set. Plus he put chocolate in his peanut butter!

9/30/1947 - Born this day, British glam-rock pioneer Marc Bolan, a.k.a. T. Rex. 20 U.K. Top 40 hits and a boatload of No. 1 LP's were not enough to get Bolan the same level of fame here in the U.S., although "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" did manage to crack the American Top 10. His influence on the English music scene in the Seventies is impossible to overstate: everyone from Bowie to Oasis basically have followed the T. Rex blueprint. Marc Bolan was tragically killed in an automobile accident on September 16th, 1977.
